The steakhouse
Crazy Horse the Steak House has become an institution in New Zealand, winning multiple industry awards since it first opening in 2006. With its 2009 renovation, the focus has shifted firmly to a celebration of what’s great in New Zealand – our meals and local fresh produce – with a wine list that showcases the best of New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the world. We enjoy bringing the best of New Zealand produce to the table and would love you to share a unique experience with us.
The steak
New Zealand has developed a strong history of farming since European settlement, and agriculture is still an integral contributor to our economy. Our dominant beef breeds are Hereford and Aberdeen Angus, both British breeds, with a Wagyu beef now established from imported Australian stock.
With social and cultural changes, many producers now focus on a specific market, and tailor their production to the end user. Pure breed farms now have a ‘paddock to plate’ concept, where out meat can be traced back to the individual animal, and the farm it was raised on.
Typically New Zealand beef is grass fed, with some being grain fed to finish. Grain has a higher energy content than grass and intensively fed, allows the animal to increase the marbling, or fat content of the muscle. In cooking, this makes for a more tender and flavoursome steak.
You will find a mix of grass fed and grain fed steak on our menu. Most of the beef we present is usually exported – but we wanted a place where we get to celebrate the best of our own.
The wine
New Zealand has built an enviable reputation for our range and quality of wine. We work with wineries from around New Zealand, tasting, discussing and reviewing their vintages, to bring some of the best quality to our table. Our list is complemented by some Australian gems as well as some classic World reds. You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy great wine of a style that you enjoy. Feel free to discuss with us your preferred tastes, and we will guide you to an experience that will add to the enjoyment of your evening.
